Center Valley, Pa. - Nineteen student-athletes were named to the 2008 Patriot League Women's Tennis Academic Honor Roll, Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced on Monday.

The group included Army junior Jessica Shurtz, who claimed the Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor in the spring. Shurtz helped the Black Knights to the Patriot League Championship after recording an 11-10 record in singles play. The Aeronautical Engineering major recorded a 3.632 grade-point average in the spring semester, and has been a recipient of the West Point Gold Star.

Three of the honorees posted a 4.0 GPA, with Lafayette freshman Kristie Cavanagh and junior Sarah Sykes and Lehigh sophomore Julie Arthofer all hitting the mark. Arthofer, Army sophomore Kristin Beehler and Colgate sophomore Samantha Inacker all made the Academic Honor Roll list after also earning All-Patriot League status.

Holy Cross led the way with five selections to the Academic Honor Roll, while Colgate placed four on the list.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's 16 winter or spring championship sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters are different at each institution.
